Meet the Owners

Teresea Higham, Owner, Counselor, MA-MHC, BSAC, HS-BCP

New Beginnings Recovery Center is part of a long journey; one that came about from sheer despair when our family was struck by the disease of addiction. Our story began much like yours I would imagine; when social use of substances turned into daily use and before we knew what had happened, there was no going back. Things became crazy, unmanageable really and we knew something had to change. Relationships were challenged, some were damaged, and home has not been repaired to this day however; we continue to hope, it’s all we have.
When treatment began, we thought our troubles were over; we were wrong. After released from an inpatient facility, relapse happened within a few weeks and all the old behaviors returned. It was during that time, which lasted about nine months, that I knew that even though I loved my husband, I had to do something for our family, something for me.

In May of 2015. I graduated from Ivy Tech (Columbus) with an Associates Degree in Human Services with a concentration in Addiction Counseling. I was crazy excited to begin helping others however, that degree was not enough. Immediately after my graduation, I began classes at Indiana Wesleyan University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Addiction Counseling (BSAC). I started the master’s program at IUPUC in August of 2016 and in August of 2018 I received a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling. Currently, I am investigating a couple of doctorial programs to further my education so that I can help others.
My husband has been clean for more that nine years now and although I am proud of him, I am also very aware of the struggles that he faces daily. I have learned patience, understanding, empathy, compassion, and the value of our family. I learned that addiction is a family disease; it disrupts the entire family and the entire family needs to seek help. We made it through this, it wasn’t easy, most times it wasn’t fun, however, if you are true to yourself and work hard, you too can achieve your goals. Reach for your recovery and discover what your new beginning will be.

Update: My husband celebrated fourteen years clean on August 2, 2023; he continues to amaze me.

Meet Our Office Personnel

Sydney Bullard: Senior Scheduler & Receptionist

My name is Sydney Bullard. I am 25 years old and in recovery. When I got sober, I had a moment of clarity, and I finally realized that having my life be run by an addiction was not only dangerous and unhealthy, but very exhausting for my mental and physical health. After I got out of rehab, I enrolled myself at New Beginnings Recovery Center to maintain my recovery and help me learn how to live a healthy life. I am now a part of the team at New Beginnings and I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to accomplish all that I have while being recovery. I have a personality again. I smile, laugh, and have fun. Yes, you can have fun without drinking; It is possible! I feel supported, appreciated, and worthy of a better life. I know I can accomplish anything in my new life because addiction isn’t holding me back anymore. Recovery gives me hope and that’s all I’ve ever wanted.
